The Oxfordshire Design and Technology Educators Network is a new group designed to encourage D&T educators in Oxfordshire to communicate and meet regularly. It was originally formed as part of a research project into the links between secondary schools and the British furniture industry. The first meeting highlighted the enthusiasm for a network that extended beyond the furniture theme and supported Design and Technology teaching as a whole.
Network meetings include eating cake, discussing current teaching methods, considering the planned changes to the curriculum and sharing ideas for the future such as CPD courses, school trips and visits from designers to inspire students.
The network currently has links to the Sylva Foundation (www.sylva.org.uk) and the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers’ (www.furnituremakers.org.uk), members of both groups have attended meetings to offer support, knowledge and resources to teachers.
It would be great to expand the network to welcome educators from all areas of Design and Technology teaching so please get in touch if you would like to join the group or require any further information.
